1 Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of our ninth president. His name was William Henry Harrison. Benjamin became our twenty-third president. He was born in Ohio. He was born in 1833. He was in the Civil War. He returned to Indiana after the war. Then he became a lawyer. Harrison was very smart. He ran for governor of Indiana but did not win. He became a senator from Indiana. Harrison ran for president in 1888. He ran against Grover Cleveland. He lost the popular election. He won the Electoral College vote. This meant Harrison was the new president.
