1     Theodore Roosevelt was our twenty-sixth president. He was born in New York City in 1858. He was born to a wealthy family. Roosevelt was often sick as a child. As a young adult, he made many trips to his ranch. It was in the Badlands in South Dakota. The trips made him healthier. He rode horses, drove cattle, and hunted. Roosevelt was in the Spanish-American War. He was a hero. He led a group called the Rough Riders. Roosevelt was elected Governor of New York in 1898. Two years later, he was elected vice president. President McKinley was shot one year later. This made Roosevelt the new president. He was only 43 years old. He was the youngest president in history. .....
