1 William Taft was the twenty-seventh president. He was born in 1857. He went to school at Yale. He became a lawyer. Taft was given jobs in the judicial branch of the government by Republicans. He became a Federal circuit judge when he was 34. Taft liked law better than politics. He wanted to be on the Supreme Court. Roosevelt appointed Taft to a job when he was president.
