¹     People can ride surf boards on the ocean waves. Waves are fun to play in. Sometimes a big wave can knock you down! Did you ever wonder how ocean waves are made?
 
²     The wind blows across the surface of the ocean. The wind has energy. The wind pushes on the water. Some of the energy moves from the wind to the water. This is what makes ocean waves. Waves usually keep going until they reach shore. Some waves may travel thousands of miles. Waves keep going even after the wind that started them has died. The distance wind or waves travel on the ocean is called the fetch.
