1 Laura Welch was born in 1946 in Texas. When she was little, Laura wanted to be a teacher. She went to college. She taught elementary school for a few years. Then she went back to college. She became a school librarian. In 1977, she met George W. Bush. They were married the same year. Laura quit her job as a librarian. She wanted to help George with his career in politics.
