The First Labor Day

1     Pete McNeil stood almost as high as his father's shoulder. He stood proudly next to his father. His eyes followed Peter McGuire as he stood up to speak to the assembled crowd.
 
2     The sun glinted off the speaker's red hair. The boy wondered if the man's fiery temperament was somehow linked to his hair color.
