What Is One Hundred?
By Joyce Furstenau

1     One hundred is a lovely number. It is a round number, and it is even. It can be grouped into ten tens, five twenties, or four groups of twenty-five. It can be used to represent a dollar in money. If something is 100%, it is the full amount. It is the boiling point of water in degrees Celsius.

2     One hundred is the number of years in a century. There are one hundred tiles in a Scrabble game. The one hundred dollar bill is the largest U.S. bill in print, and there are exactly one hundred words in these two paragraphs.

3     One hundred yards is the measurement of an American football field without the end zones. How many professional football players do you think have actually run one hundred yards for a touchdown?
