Autumn Preparation
By Mary Lynn Bushong

1     "Sebastian, come here now!" called Mama. "You have been playing all day, running from tree to tree and all over the grass. I need you to come in now and get ready for supper."

2     "But, Mama, I am not hungry. I want to play in the trees some more," said Sebastian.

3     "You may not be hungry now, but you will be in just a little while. You are a young squirrel, and you do too much playing and not any planning," scolded Mama.

4     "Aw, Mama, the air is so crisp, and it is so cool. I can run and jump and not get hot at all. I love this time of year."

5     "Yes, it is a wonderful time of year. This is the time of the year called autumn. The days are getting shorter and the nights longer. That is why you need to help us during the day to store more food for when winter comes."
