The Trouble With Teasing
By Erin Horner

1     "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This is a popular saying. Many people say this when someone is teasing them. They say it to remind the teaser that words are just words, and therefore cannot hurt. But words can hurt. That is the trouble with teasing. When someone makes fun of you or puts you down, it hurts your feelings. When someone makes fun of your clothes or your hair, it can make you feel sad. Oftentimes, one person will tease another just because he or she likes to watch another person get upset. Teasers like to make people become frustrated. They think this is fun! If you want someone to stop teasing you, you should first ask him or her to stop. If the person will not stop, try ignoring him or her. Do not let this person's words bother you. If you have to, walk away from the other person. If after trying all of these things, you are still being teased, tell your teacher or an adult. Teasing and unkind words will not break your bones like sticks .....
