Grandma's Helper Gets Help
By Mary Lynn Bushong

1     "Grandma, thank you for letting me come over to your house today and help you make cookies. I always enjoy coming to your house," said Amy. "I wish I could live with you all the time."

2     "Well, Amy, I am glad you could come over. I enjoy having you help me. Your mom would miss you very much, though, if you lived with me all the time."

3     "I don't know about that," Amy said with a frown. "Now that Mom has had the new baby, it seems like she doesn't have any time for me."

4     Grandma laid the cookie cutter on the counter and brushed the flour from her hands. "Amy, your mother loves you very much. And she loves your sister, Rachel, very much, too. You need to understand that babies need a lot of care. They can't do anything for themselves. Not like a big girl like you. It's only natural that your mother would need to spend more time with Rachel. That doesn't mean she loves you any less."

5     "Well, maybe, but last week I asked if I could try out for the girls' volleyball team, and she said that she didn't have time to take me to practice. My best friend, Jennifer, got on the team, and she said that tryouts are over now. I missed my chance."
