¹     Chugga, chugga, choo, choo! Can you hear it? A train is coming down the track! Trains are a form of transportation. They help to move things from one place to another. A train can move food, clothing, and other materials. On a train these goods are called cargo or freight. The cargo is carried in different types of freight cars. Some freight cars are called hoppers. Hopper cars are big rectangle shaped boxes with no roof. Workers load coal or other types of freight into a hopper by dumping it in from the top. Sometimes the freight is a liquid. Liquids like crude oil and corn syrup are held in tanker cars. These look a lot like tipped soda cans on wheels. Sometimes freight is packed in boxes. Boxed freight is placed into boxcars. Boxcars are easy to load thanks to their giant doors. Big doors on the side of each car slide open. This allows rail workers to slide the freight inside.
