1 The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is part of the federal government. Its focus is on improving America's environment. The EPA was established in 1970. President Richard Nixon suggested the idea for this agency. Before this time, there was not one single agency in charge of taking care of the environment. The EPA was given this huge task. The head of the EPA is called the administrator. The EPA is not a part of the president's cabinet. The administrator is often given the status of cabinet-rank. He or she advises the president on matters dealing with our environment.![]() |
