Office of Management and Budget

1 The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is part of our federal government. It belongs to the Executive Office of the President. The head of the OMB is called the director. The director is not part of the president's cabinet. Instead he or she is given the status of cabinet-rank. The office's main role is to help the president manage and prepare the federal budget. It also supervises how the budget is carried out by executive branch agencies. The office has to be able to make informed decisions about the budget. In order to do this, the office must know a lot about other issues and programs outside of the budget.
