1     The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is part of our federal government. It belongs to the Executive Office of the President. The head of the OMB is called the director. The director is not part of the president's cabinet. Instead he or she is given the status of cabinet-rank. The office's main role is to help the president manage and prepare the federal budget. It also supervises how the budget is carried out by executive branch agencies. The office has to be able to make informed decisions about the budget. In order to do this, the office must know a lot about other issues and programs outside of the budget.
 
2     Many offices work together to accomplish this large task. There are Resource Management Offices. These offices develop and support the president's budget and management agenda. They discuss budget issues with Congress. Four offices make up the Statutory Offices. One office gives directions on how to carry out financial management policies. A second office improves laws that deal with how federal money is spent. This includes money spent on all goods, .....
