1 The Rose Bowl game has been a part of America's New Year celebration since 1916. The first Tournament of Roses celebration was held in Pasadena, California in 1890. That celebration included a parade of horse-drawn carriages covered in flowers, foot races, polo matches, and a game of tug-of-war. For the next twelve years the celebration grew into a big New Year's Day celebration. Motorized floats and marching bands were added. The land where the festivities were held was renamed Tournament Park.![]() |
