The Bat Man
By Mary Lynn Bushong

The tires screeched on the pavement as the legendary Batmobile raced around the corner and sped off up the street. The sleek, jet black turbo-charged car chased the worst villain in all of Gotham. Then, with surgical precision, it stopped. A dark, caped figure jumped from the vehicle and fired his grappling hook at the top of the building. In the blink of an eye, he shot straight up.

"Andy, I need you to put your toys away now. Our guests will be here in a little while," said Andy's mother.

"Aw, Mom," said Andy. "Batman is about to catch the bad guy. I can't stop now."

"Batman can do that later," said Mom.

Andy picked up his Batmobile and slipped it into his pocket. Then he put the rest of his toys away in the toy box. He didn't think it was a good idea to stop Batman when he was so close to catching the bad guy.

"Mom, why do we have to have company come over tonight? I don't like company," said Andy.

"I think you will enjoy these guests," said Mom. "Mr. and Mrs. James are farmers, and I think they would let you visit their farm if you are really nice to them."

"Wow, a real farm. That would be fun," said Andy as he put his toy box away.

It wasn't long until the doorbell rang. It was Mr. and Mrs. James. Dad introduced Andy to the Jameses.

"Mom told me you are a farmer," said Andy.

"Yes, I am," said Mr. James. "I raise many crops and animals on my farm."

"That is really cool," said Andy as he rolled his Batmobile across the corner of the table.

"I see you are a fan of Batman," said Mr. James.

"He's my favorite," said Andy. "He fights all kinds of bad guys."
