What Is a Quaker?

1 Back in the mid-1600's, there were two groups of Christians who did not want to submit to the authority of the Church of England. We're familiar with one of those groups. They were the Puritans who settled in the American colonies. The other group also came to America. They were called the Quakers. William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was a famous Quaker. He was in his mid-twenties and living in England when he became a Quaker.
