Expensive Energy
By Kathleen W. Redman

1     School can be tough. Sometimes it's a lot of work. It starts early in the day. Homework can take a long time to finish. After-school activities can take even more time. Ashley stays very busy with a lot of school stuff.

2     Ashley used to have a hard time getting up. Mornings weren't for her. She woke up tired. She stayed tired until almost lunchtime. That made it hard for her to think clearly at school. Ashley decided she needed some help. She found something that gave her quick energy.

3     Ashley started drinking energy drinks. Her energy drinks have a lot of caffeine in them. The caffeine helps her wake up. It gives her a lot of energy. How does caffeine do that?
