Animal Care Workers
By Kathleen W. Redman

1     Most people like animals, especially pets. It's fun to play with them, to train them, and, most of the time, to take care of them. But taking care of animals all the time can be hard work.

2     Animal care workers train, feed, water, groom, bathe, and exercise animals. They clean, disinfect, and repair their cages. They also play with the animals and look for changes that could mean illness or injury. There are many different kinds of jobs in animal care.

3     Kennel attendants usually care for pets like dogs and cats when their owners are out of town. They clean cages and dog runs, fill food and water dishes, and exercise the animals. Some kennels provide basic healthcare and grooming. Attendants may sell pet food and supplies and provide obedience training. Other kennels help with breeding.
