Using Energy Efficiently
By Patti Hutchison

1     Your are going to run a marathon. Twenty-six miles. You will need a lot of energy. If you start too fast, you will use up all your energy. You need to pace yourself. This will help you use your energy more efficiently. You will have enough energy left to finish the race.

2     Energy efficiency means using our energy resources in a way that is best and most productive. It means using less energy to produce the same results we are used to. We need to make sure we will have enough energy to keep "running the race." How can you help? You can start at home.

3     We use a lot of energy in our homes. We use electricity or fossil fuels for heating and cooking. We use electricity to run our appliances. Computers and televisions run on electricity also. Using energy more efficiently can start as simply as turning off the lights when you leave a room. Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
