Climate During The Cenozoic Era

1     Caption: Portage Glacier, Alaska
 
2     Did you know you are living in the Cenozoic Era? But a lot has happened in the last 66 million years! Many tectonic events have taken place. Some of them have affected the earth's climate.
 
3     Before the Cenozoic Era, the earth was quite warm and wet. The final breakup of Pangaea occurred during this time. A change in ocean circulation occurred.
 
4     As Antarctica broke away from Australia, it moved over the South Pole. The warm ocean current that had been flowing past Antarctic was reversed. A cold current began to surround it. The climate of Antarctica cooled, and glaciers formed.
