Magazines and Cards
By Cathy Pearl

1     You're just about to leave for a party when you realize that you forgot to buy a card. On your way to the party, you stop at the store to buy a card to go with your gift. There are a lot of cards to pick from. And how are you supposed to find the right card?

2     The cards are organized. First, the store organizes them by the company that makes them or their brand. There are many different companies that make greeting cards. Each company's cards are kept together in one area of the display.

3     Next, the cards are organized by what occasion they are for. There are many different kinds of cards. You can find one that will fit almost any occasion. Some of the most common cards are for birthdays and weddings. There are cards to welcome a new baby and to congratulate someone on a new job.

4     For each occasion there are still different kinds of cards to pick from. Some are long and thin. These are made to hold money or a check. Others have verses or poems in them. Still others are meant to be funny. Funny cards are quite easy to find if the special occasion is a birthday.

5     Not every card costs the same amount of money. Certain brands of cards are made to cost a certain amount, like one dollar. The fancier the card, the more money it will cost. For five dollars, you can even get a card that plays music.
