Jake and Jackie Set a Table
By Beth Beutler

Ding dong. The doorbell rang through the house. Jake went to the door and peeked through the peephole. Jackie and her parents were here for the monthly neighborhood supper club.

"Hi Jake!" Jackie said as she pulled off her windbreaker. "What's up?"

Just then Jake heard his dad calling from the kitchen.

"Jake, come here for a second."

     "Yes, Dad?"

"We are running a little behind. Would you please set the dining room table for ten people? Use the dishes out of the china cabinet."

     "Okay."

Jake headed to the dining room with its mahogany table. They didn't use the dining room very much, except when they had guests.

"Jackie, want to help me? Dad needs me to set the table."

     "Sure."

Jake carefully lifted out ten sets of china plates.

"The silverware is in that drawer," Jake said.
