Skiing the Slopes
By Tammy Scarbrough

1     As we began our trip up the mountain, I began to feel a little afraid. See, I have never skied before. What would it be like? Would it hurt if I fell? What if I couldn't stop myself coming down the mountain? Of course, Mom and Dad assured me that I would be alright and that we would go slowly. That didn't help the queasy feeling in my stomach, though. Was the road getting narrower or was it just my imagination?

2     Finally, we reached the Salt Lake Ski Resort. I nervously climbed out of the car. We walked into the ski shop to rent some ski boots and poles. Mom had already bought a pair of gloves, goggles, and a cap for me. I tried on a few pair of boots and finally found some that were comfortable. The guy at the shop showed me how to snap my boots into the skis. I then unsnapped them to go outside into the unknown.

3     We walked to a part of the lower mountain and entered "The Bunny Hill Ski School." There were about ten other people in there; some of them were even adults. Before that moment, I thought I was the only person in Utah who didn't know how to ski. After Mom paid for the lessons, we walked outside with the other people and three instructors.
