Germany - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     Imagine a place from a storybook. In this storybook are tales of great adventures in the mountains. There are great castles everywhere. There are big cities with places to shop and dance. There's a forest so thick it is called the Black Forest. And there are roads where you can drive as fast as you want. This place is very real and it's called Germany.

2     Germany is a country in Europe. It has Poland and the Czech Republic to the east and Denmark to the north. There are Austria and Switzerland to the south of Germany and France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands to the west. The land is different throughout Germany. In the north are lowlands. Southern Germany has tall mountains called the Alps.

3     Germany's capital is Berlin. It is one of Germany's biggest cities. One of the biggest symbols of Berlin is the Brandenburg Gate. You know that a gate is like a doorway, a way to enter someplace. The Brandenburg Gate used to be the way to enter Berlin.
