Chile - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     If you look at a map, you'll notice something strange about Chile. Its shape isn't like any other country in the world. Chile is long and skinny. Located on the western coast of South America, it's 4,300 km long from north to south, but it is only 200 km wide! Chile is also home to an island named after a holiday.

2     Chile is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Argentina and Bolivia, and to the north by Peru. Because it is so long, there are many different kinds of land in Chile. In the north are high mountains where it almost never rains. In the south is Patagonia, an area in Chile and Argentina that is a beautiful land of huge mountains and big rivers. To the west are beaches.

3     Imagine being on a beach in Chile. There's a boat nearby. You decide to get in the boat and see what's out at sea. You travel 3,700 km to the west. Know what you'd find there? A very strange island, called Easter Island.
