Georgia - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     Georgia is in a special place in the world. It is in a corner between three different regions. It is in a corner of Europe, between the Middle East and Asia. Many people during history have traveled through Georgia. Many people from many different places have also ruled Georgia. Armies from Europe, Asia and the Middle East all conquered Georgia. Because of this, Georgian people are a mix of many different cultures.

2     Georgia sits in southeastern Europe, just south of Russia. It is a long country from east to west. To Georgia's west is the Black Sea. To its east is the Caspian Sea. And to its north and south are mountain ranges. All this makes Georgian geography very interesting.

3     The capital of Georgia is a big city called Tbilisi. It has a population of 1.2 million people. It sits along the banks of the Mtkvari River, inside a deep gorge. Do you know what a gorge is? A gorge is an area between mountains. A gorge is a very low point, usually along a river.
