Suriname - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     This South American country has interesting geography. At one time, Suriname's geography hid the people who lived there. Today, Suriname's nature is some of the greatest in all of South America. In fact, it has one of South America's biggest national parks. Suriname is also home to many wonderful animals. Can you imagine what a black spider monkey would look like?

2     Suriname is on South America's northern coast. Many years ago, there weren't many people in Suriname. The people that were there were the Carib Indians. The Caribs lived all around the Caribbean Sea. Many years ago, European explorers came to the Caribbean. The Europeans weren't kind to the Caribs.

3     The Caribs who lived in Suriname were lucky. The country's coastline looked scary to the Europeans. There were lots of mangroves. Mangroves are very odd-looking trees that grow where it's wet. Suriname's coast was also very muddy. So the Europeans went to other places.
