Christmas in Italy
By Phyllis Naegeli

David sat next to his father on the plane, staring out the window as they taxied towards the terminal building in Naples, Italy. He felt a rush of excitement as the pilot announced their arrival. He looked across the aisle to where his mother and sister, Anna, were sitting and smiled.

"We're finally here!" he exclaimed. "I can't wait to see Nonna and Nonnino."

"I'm sure they are excited too. This is your first visit to Italy. They have waited a long time for this," replied Dad.

"Besides, they haven't seen us for two years. I hope they recognize me," said Anna. "I'm ten years old now, they might not remember me."

"Oh, I think they will know you," said Mother with a grin. "We send them pictures all the time."

David and Anna made their way down the walkway as fast as they could. There at the end were their grandparents waving excitedly at the two children.

"My, how you've grown!" said Nonna hugging David and Anna tightly.

"I'm ten now," said Anna proudly.

     "She knows!" said David.
