Helping Others in Need
By Tammy Scarbrough

1     Have you ever helped someone who needed you? That is just what Millard and Linda Fuller decided to do almost forty years ago. They decided to give up their millionaire way of living and go out and help people who needed houses.

2     They had been helping people for many years, but in 1976, they opened the first office of Habitat for Humanity in Americus, Georgia, where they lived. You may be asking yourself, "What is Habitat for Humanity?" Well, I hope to answer that for you.

3     There are times when people do not have enough money to buy a house. When they join Habitat for Humanity, they help build their own house with other people who have volunteered to help them. These houses are built in 89 countries in the world, not just in the United States. Habitat for Humanity gets money for supplies from companies, churches, and other people. A lot of people are happy to donate money and time to this organization.
