Walnut Grove, Minnesota
By Jennifer Kenny

1     Christa's mother read to her every night at bedtime. The books used to be quick picture books, but now that Christa was in second grade, her mother started reading her chapter books.

2     Just this year, Christa's mother was reading her books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. These were a series, or a group, of books called Little House books about the places Laura, the author, lived as she grew up.

3     Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about growing up in the pioneer days of the 1870's and 1880's. Little House in the Big Woods takes place in Wisconsin. Little House on the Prairie takes place in Kansas. On the Banks of Plum Creek takes place in Minnesota. The rest of the books follow her life's adventures as well.

4     Tonight, Christa's mother came in to continue reading about Laura's childhood experiences. However, she had a big surprise for Christa! When they finished reading tonight's chapter, Christa's mother announced that she would be taking Christa to Walnut Grove, Minnesota when they finished reading On the Banks of Plum Creek!
