Walnut Grove, Minnesota
By Jennifer Kenny

1     Christa's mother read to her every night before bed. The books used to be quick picture books. Now that Christa was in second grade, her mother had started reading chapter books to her.

2     Now, Christa's mother was reading books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. These were a series of books called the Little House books. They were stories about the places where Laura, the author, had lived as she grew up.

3     Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about growing up in the pioneer days of the 1870s and 1880s. Little House in the Big Woods takes place in Wisconsin. Little House on the Prairie takes place in Kansas. On the Banks of Plum Creek takes place in Minnesota. The rest of the books are about her life as well.

4     When they finished reading tonight's chapter, Christa's mother had a big surprise for Christa! She told Christa that they would be going to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum! They could see where Laura had lived On the Banks of Plum Creek!

5     "Wow!" Christa yelled. "That's great news!" She couldn't wait for the trip.
