Breakfast at Tiffany's
By Beth Beutler

1     It was early Saturday morning. Rachel yawned and looked at the clock. She suddenly remembered that this was a special morning. Dad and her brothers were on an overnight campout until this afternoon, so it was just the girls. It was also her sister Tiffany's 13th birthday. Tiffany was the oldest of the children, and Rachel and her mom had decided to make a special breakfast to commemorate her step into the teenage years.

2     Rachel rolled out of bed and enjoyed the feel of the fluffy pink rug on her bare feet. It was a little chilly in the house, but it would warm up soon. She padded to the bathroom and began to brush her hair and then her teeth. She went back to her room and changed into comfortable clothes, then snuck down the stairs to the kitchen to keep from waking Tiffany in the room near the stairs. Mom was already by the stove frying bacon.

3     "Good morning," Rachel greeted her mother.

4     "Hi, hon. Ready to start?" Mom answered.

5     "I sure am!"
