Who is this president?   

____ was born in Raleigh, N.C., on Dec. 29, 1808. ____ grew up in a very poor home, especially after his father died when he was only three years old. ____ started working in a tailor's shop when he was twelve years old. The family moved to Tennessee and ____ settled in Greeneville where he met his wife, Eliza McCardle. ____ and Eliza were married in 1827. In 1857 ____ became a United States Senator from Tennessee. ____ was the vice president under President Abraham Lincoln. ____ had only been vice president for forty-one days when President Lincoln was shot, and he was left to repair and unite the nation on his own.

This president was the only ex-president who was elected to the U.S. Senate after his presidential term.

This man was the first to become president because of an assassination of another president.

Since this president never went to school, his wife taught him to read, write, and do math.

This president was buried beneath a willow he had planted himself with a shoot taken from a tree at Napolean's tomb.

This president once said "There are no good laws but such as repeal other laws."
