Who is this president?

Born on March 18, 1837, Stephen ____ was both the 22nd and 24th president of the United States. His first term was from 1885 to 1889 and his second presidency was from 1893 to 1897. Other public offices held by him, prior to becoming president, were Mayor of Buffalo, New York; Governor of the State of New York; assistant district attorney of Erie County, New York; and Erie County Sheriff. He was unmarried when he became president but married 21-year-old Frances Folsom in a ceremony in the White House - the only presidential marriage performed there. His reputation as the "veto mayor" of Buffalo carried through his presidencies. During his two presidential terms he used his veto powers 584 times, the highest of any president except Franklin D. Roosevelt. He nullified fraudulent grants to some eighty million acres of western public lands and vetoed hundreds of pension bills that would have sent federal monies to undeserving Civil War veterans. The Interstate Commerce Act became law during his first term, as did the Dawes General Allotment Act that redistributed Indian reservation land to individual tribal members. Early in his second term, the country faced its worst economic depression in history, and he insisted the government could do nothing to alleviate the suffering of the many thousands of people who had lost jobs, homes and farms. He retired to New Jersey where he became active in the affairs of Princeton University. ____ died on June 24, 1908 in Princeton.

He was a supporter of using gold as the monetary standard of the United States.

During this president's second term, the first Sunday newspaper comics are released.

His father, Richard Falley ____, was a Presbyterian minister.

This president discovered a cancerous growth on the roof of his mouth, but he didn't want to cause a panic, so he and several doctors snuck aboard a pleasure boat and removed the growth. The public thought he was on a fishing trip and never knew the truth until after his death.

This president once said "I am honest and sincere in my desire to do well, but the question is whether I know enough to accomplish what I desire."
