The Space Ghost, Part 1
By Mary Lynn Bushong

"Cassandra, can you please get supper out of the replicator?" asked Mom. "I programmed it to be ready about now."

Cassandra sighed and flipped her data pad on the table that served for both meals and work. She lifted the glass dispenser door and stared at the yellow and green suppurating mass in the large baking dish.

"Eeeewwwww," she said, rolling her lip up. "Uh, Mom, what is this supposed to be?"

     "Lasagna. Why?"

"I think the replicator has a problem," muttered Cassandra.

Mom leaned over Cassandra's shoulder. "I see what you mean. I wonder if it's still edible in spite of how it looks."

"I'd leave that alone," said Dad, poking his face around the bulkhead. "Several of the ship's systems have been going out intermittently. I'd recycle that and just get out the ration bars if people are hungry."

Mom nodded. She picked up the dish and slid it into the recycler. "You're probably right. It didn't look very appetizing."
