Who Will Help Me?
By Dawn A. Adams

"I broke my bike, and I need help," said Gabe. "Mom, can I call the fire department to come help me fix my bike?"

"No, Gabe, the fire department doesn't do that kind of stuff for us," Mom replied.

"Then can I call the police department to help me?" asked Gabe.

"No, Gabe, police officers don't do that kind of stuff for us, either," Mom said.

     "Why not?" Gabe questioned.

"Because that isn't their job," explained Mom.

"Okay, may I ask the mayor to help me?"

"Gabe, he doesn't fix bikes; he's far too busy for that," said Mom.

"Well, who will help me?" whined Gabe. "My teacher told me that these people are helpers in the community. I thought they're supposed to help us."
