Jake and Jackie Learn to Exercise More
By Beth Beutler

Jackie yawned. It was a lazy summer day. She rolled over and saw her clock stating "10:07."

"Wow!" she thought. "I really slept late! Wonder what Jake is doing."

She looked out her window toward her neighbor's house. Jake lived next door, and he was already out in the back yard playing with his dog.

Jackie slid out of bed and changed into denim shorts and a pink t-shirt. She walked down the hall to the kitchen where her mom was cooking.

"Hey, sleepy girl," Mom said. "Want a bagel?"

"Sure," Jackie yawned. As she chomped on the wheat bagel with peanut butter spread on it, she began to wake up more. She finished, cleaned up, and said, "I'm going outside to see Jake."

As Jackie approached the fence, Jake called over. "It's about time you got up!"

Jackie sneered. "I'm not a morning person like you, Jake."
