The Little Brown Cookie Man By Phyllis Naegeli

---

¹     A little, brown cookie man sat on a rock. He was sad. A young boy was walking by. He stopped and looked at the little brown cookie man.
 
²     "Why are you sad?" asked the boy.
 
³     "I am sad because I am a cookie," said the little brown cookie man.
 
⁴     "I think it would be fun to be a cookie," said the boy.
 
⁵     "But then you would be a snack, and someone would want to eat you," said the little brown cookie man.
 
⁶     "Oh, I see," said the boy. "That is a problem."
 
⁷     The boy sat down next to the little brown cookie man, "Who made you?"
 
⁸     "A little old lady made me for a snack," said the little brown cookie man. "When I came out of the oven, I jumped and I ran. I have been running for a long time. A cow, a pig, and a dog all tried to eat me. I'm tired of running."
