1     Gloria Estefan was born on September 1, 1957, in Havana, Cuba. Her family soon moved to Miami. She was sixteen months old. Her father served in Vietnam. He died in 1980. Her mom ran a school in Cuba. Today, she lives in Miami.
 
2     Gloria first sang in front of people at a wedding. Everyone thought that she did very well. A man asked her to join the group Miami Sound Machine. Gloria would marry that man someday. She became lead singer of the group.
 
3     The group did very well and had many hit songs. In 1989, the group name was dropped. Gloria became the lead artist and singer. In 1989, she released her best selling album.
