Victor and Vanessa
By Brenda B. and Jasmine M. Covert

Victor was seven years old. His family moved to a new village. Victor went out to find a new friend. He found a lovely girl swinging on a vine.

"Hi! My name is Victor. What's yours?" he asked bravely.

"Leave me alone!" the girl said.

"Fine!" Victor said. He was very sad as he walked back to his hut. "I won't ever talk to her again," he told himself.

The next day Victor went to school in the village. There she was! That vine-swinging girl was in his class. Her name was Vanessa.

Should Victor give Vanessa another chance to be his friend? As he thought it over, she gave him an evil look. He vowed to stay away from her.

At home, his parents asked about his first day of school.

"There's a girl named Vanessa--"

"Did you make friends with her?" his mother asked.
