1     ¿Tu imaginación te llevó alguna vez a una tierra lejana o dio inicio a una aventura increíble? La imaginación de Gertrude Chandler Warner lo hizo. Llegó a ser una autora famosa de libros infantiles debido a ello.
 
2     Gertrude Chandler Warner nació el 16 de abril de 1890, y era hija de Edgar y Jane Warner. Nació en Putnam, Connecticut, en una casa ubicada frente a una estación de ferrocarril. Tenía una hermana llamada Frances y un hermano llamado John.
 
3     A Gertrude siempre le encantó leer y escribir. A los cinco años, supo que quería ser escritora cuando fuera grande. Se enfermaba con mucha frecuencia de pequeña por lo cual tenía mucho tiempo para leer y escribir. Su historia favorita era Alicia en el país de las maravillas. De niña, a Gertrude también le gustaba jugar con su casa de muñecas. Disfrutaba, también, de visitar la granja de sus abuelos y juntar flores silvestres, especialmente sus favoritas: violetas.
 
4     Todos los años, la madre de Gertrude le compraba anotadores a ella y a su hermana: a ambas les encantaba crear historias. Cuando Gertrude tenía nueve años, escribió e hizo dibujos para un libro como obsequio de Navidad de su abuelo Carpenter. Se llamaba Golliwogg en el zoológico. Cada año después de eso, el equipo de hermanas que se llamaban a sí mismas, en broma, Warner y compañía le regalaba una nueva creación.
