1     Aleck Bell estaba tendido en su jardín mirando el cielo nocturno. "Mañana voy a Londres", dijo en voz alta. Estaba muy entusiasmado. Durante mucho tiempo había soñado con ir a Londres y se preguntaba cómo sería la gran ciudad. Extrañaría su casa de Escocia y a su familia. Pero igual no podía esperar a irse.
 
2     "Aleck", llamó su madre, "es hora de ir a dormir".
 
3     Se levantó y dio una última mirada a su alrededor. "Ya voy".
 
4     Al día siguiente, Alexander Graham Bell se subió a un tren a Londres. Fue un viaje largo. Cuando llegó, su abuelo lo recibió en la estación. "¿Esa es la mejor ropa que tienes?"
 
5     "Sí, señor", contestó Aleck.
 
6     "Bueno, no servirá para nada. Mi sastre tendrá que hacerte un traje nuevo", dijo su abuelo.
 
7     Aleck frunció el ceño. Ya no se sentía tan entusiasmado.
 
8     Aleck recibió un traje nuevo. Su abuelo desechó la ropa vieja. El conjunto, ajustado y rígido, era horrible, pero ahora era todo lo que tenía. Aleck fue a mostrar el traje a su abuelo.
 
9     "Ah, eso está mucho mejor. ¿Qué piensas, muchacho?"
 
10     "Es un poco rígido", dijo Aleck.
 
11     "Te acostumbrarás. Mañana comenzamos con tus clases. Estás aquí para aprender griego y latín. Te ayudará a ser profesor de oratoria, como tu padre", dijo su abuelo.
 
12     "¿Realmente necesito aprender griego y latín, abuelo? Yo quiero ser músico", dijo Aleck.
