Jordan - Culture
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     Jordan is a small kingdom in the Middle East. The family name of Jordan kings is Hashemite. That is why the full name of the country is Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. How would like to have a country named after your family?

2     Jordan as we know it today is a fairly young country. It was founded in the early 1920's. Its name was different then. It was called Transjordan ("beyond the Jordan") because the entire country lies across the River of Jordan from Palestine.

3     Most of the people of Jordan are Arabs. Most of them are Muslims. Jordan is situated on the territory that once was part of ancient Palestine. This is why many Jordanians trace their ancestry to ancient people who lived in Palestine.
