By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     During their thousands of years of history, Chinese people have developed very specific, unique customs regarding food, clothing and etiquette. There are more than 50 ethnic groups in China, like Mongolians, Tibetans, Koreans, Uygurs and others, and every one of them have their own traditions and favorite meals.

2     Chinese culinary arts have a long history. They are famous all over the world. Chinese dishes appeal to the millions of people by their very specific shape, aroma and taste. Most Chinese people use rice and noodles as the basic parts of their diet; they also love vegetables, beans, meat, fish and eggs. Very special attention is paid to the cooking techniques.

3     In some areas, people prefer roast mutton kebabs, unleavened bread and rice. Mongolians often eat beef, mutton, and dairy products, and drink tea with milk. Koreans like sticky rice cakes, cold noodles, and kimchi (hot pickled vegetables). Tibetans eat tsampa (roasted highland barley flour) as their main food, and drink buttered tea.
