Red Face and Long Johns

What do you call this ship? It has a black flag. It has a man with a peg leg. He has a map for finding gold.

     It is a pirate ship!

Pirates were bad men who took gold that did not belong to them. They took it and hid it. One man was the boss of the crew. He was the captain of the ship.

This story is about a pirate called Red Face. He had a helper named Long Johns.

Captain Red Face said, "If we work together, we will be rich!"

Long Johns nodded. "I want to be rich. I made up this song. Let me sing it for you." He sang his song. "Yo-Ho-Ho and a bag full of gold!"

Captain Red Face had a song like that. "My song is better," he said. "Yo-Ho-Ho and a bottle of pop!"

Long Johns shook his head. "Gold is better than soda pop," he said.

The captain's faced turned red. "You cannot drink gold!" he said. "Pop is the best!"

The helper shook his head again. "You can have the soda pop. I will take the gold."

"The gold is mine!" yelled Red Face. "We will take a vote! We will ask my men to pick the best song!"

Rain started to fall. They went to the captain's room to stay dry. The crew came into the room. The men sat on the floor.

Captain Red Face looked at his crew. "Who is not here?" he asked.

One Eye Jack was not there. He was in the crow's nest.
