Neighborhood Work Day
By Mary L. Bushong

1     Brandon and his brother Blake sat impatiently at the kitchen table.

2     "Do we have to eat breakfast?" asked Blake. "The others are probably at the Chisholm Place now, and I was hoping to be one of the first ones there."

3     "There will be plenty of work to go around," said Mom as she lifted the hot pan of bacon off of the stove and gave them each three pieces. Then she took a batch of toast from the oven. She was able to quickly brush a lump of butter over each slice of toast and put it on their plates. Finally she poured each of them a glass of skim milk.
