Dr. Cadabra's Expedition (Part 2)
By Mary L. Bushong

1     Dr. Cadabra turned his back on the sailor and began to work his way into the woods. In moments, one insect after another began buzzing around his head and biting his skin. Soon he decided that every mosquito in the forest must have been chasing him. He began to run through the forest, trying to dodge branches that ended up scratching him all over.
2     Not far ahead, he thought he saw a clearing. After a quick spurt of speed, he suddenly found himself tumbling down the bank of a creek, landing with a splash in the cold water. Dr. Cadabra sat up in the water and blinked back tears of frustration. He would not cry! He sat still for a second and then stood up carefully. He started to drag his soggy sample case to the bank of the creek and sat down with a groan.
3     He looked down at his fine outfit that was soaking the ground. He took off his shirt and began to squeeze the water from it. Then he poured the dirty water out of his shoes. He was sure there had been a quart of it at least.
