Bicycle Built for One

1     Ricky was so excited. His grandfather had bought him a new wrench set. Now he could work on his bicycle -- the handlebars needed to be tightened, the chain needed to be fitted and the pedals needed to be attached. He had found this bike by the side of the road. It was beat up, but it would work!

2     Ricky had been saving up to buy a bike, but he only had a little time each week to earn extra money, what with the chores he had to do. Milking the cows took him nearly an hour when it was his turn, and he also helped with the garden.

3     Plus, they were fixing up the yard because his cousin, Mary Beth, planned to have her wedding there in the fall. He couldn't understand why, but she thought the farm was beautiful and had asked his parents a long time ago.
