The Grove Station Torch
By Mary L. Bushong

1     Mr. Kahn stood up at the front of his fourth grade class and held up his hands for silence.

2     "It is apparent from the work you handed in last week that you all have a good grasp of how a newspaper works. I thought it would be fun to demonstrate this knowledge by producing a class newspaper."

3     The whole class erupted into a noisy throng.

4     Mr. Kahn raised his voice over the din. "Please resist the temptation to talk. I happen to have it on good authority that overly vocal people do not write well. A good reporter needs to listen. This project will take a good portion of the week, so be prepared to work."

5     It was not long before the class had been divided into many, small groups. Mr. Kahn went around to each group, giving them story assignments.
