Items in a series may consist of phrases or clauses. Use commas only between whole items in a series. We have to finish sanding the wood, gluing the joints, and painting the design. We brought oatmeal cookies with raisins, cherry pie with almonds, and chocolate cake with vanilla icing to the bake sale.
