Nonessential Information

Use commas to separate the nonessential information in a sentence.
Nonessential information adds information to a sentence, but doesn't change the meaning of the sentence.

The birds outside my window, a cardinal and a blue jay, are fighting over the birdbath.
We need to vacuum the carpet, dust the furniture, and decorate before the party.

Rewrite each sentence using the correct punctuation.
1.  Colton my oldest son is going into the ninth grade.

2.  The party according to Tim will be over before ten o'clock.

3.  I finished reading the newspaper Saturday's edition in about two hours.

4.  John Nash a Nobel Prize winner is a brilliant mathematician.

5.  Jake Olsen the quarterback of our football team threw three touchdown passes in the last game.

6.  CNN a quick news source reported on the trouble at the airport.
